Being a tourist

We try to minimize the negative impact of some actions, so we invite our guests to join us and try to be insiders wherever they go:

Reduce your (carbon) footprint: walking, cycling and trekking or exploring an area is a good way to reduce your carbon footprint. In urban destinations, walk (use the location map) or use public transport whenever possible. You'll get to know the area better and avoid getting stuck in rush hour traffic!

Be environmentally friendly: preserving the environment must always be in the mind of the traveler: anything that helps the environment, such as recycling, also protects the heritage. At home, turn off lights and equipment that are not in use, and reduce heating in rooms when you go out. Close / open the curtains to reduce the need for heating. Separate the garbage by placing it in the containers identified for each category. Reduce the use of non-biodegradable items such as cans, batteries, plastic. Reduce water consumption, turn off the tap when not needed or take a quick shower. Use environmentally friendly products such as soap and other biodegradable products. Always take your bags when shopping.

Get off the tourist routes: visit also lesser-known places, you will be delighted in addition to having far fewer visitors than the sights. Portugal has places of unique beauty. We can share with you the suggestions, if you want.

Buy local: support the local economy by buying crafts from local artisans as souvenirs. Be wary of “antiques” as they may be stolen or counterfeit items. Buy locally grown organic foods. Buy at local stores and discover Portuguese cuisine at local restaurants, so the money spent boosts the local economy and helps preserve the heritage. Shop at the nearest supermarket or market. It is a subtle way of getting to know the local life.
